LYRICS

The following are some of Joelle Steele's song lyrics. There are many more; these are just a sampling.

Money Isn’t Everything

(chorus)

Money isn’t everything

It’s just a means to an end

We spend it all as fast as we make it

Then we start all over again

We waste it

We misplace it

We deface it

... and more

We don’t regard it

We discard it

Credit card it --

No, no, no, no, no, no!

Money isn’t everything

Hey, it isn’t anything at all

Money, yeah, disposable income

We throw it all away every day

On silly things that we don’t need

And we justify our petty greed

Even when there’s people starving at home

Or half a world away

Money, it’s the stuff landfills are made of

So all the rats and seagulls get their share

They eat the food that we don’t eat

Nest in shoes straight from our feet

Waste not want not’s what we say then

Fill the trash can, don’t repair what’s broken

(chorus)

Oh yeah, money isn’t everything

It’s just a means to an end

We spend it all as fast as we make it

Then we start all over again

We waste it

We misplace it

We deface it

and more

We don’t regard it

We disgard it

Credit card it --

No, no, no, no, no, no!

Money isn’t everything

That’s right, it ain’t nothing at all

(bridge)

Money doesn’t mean a thing to you and me

And we know all those ancient platitudes

like money, it can’t buy you love,

can’t take it with you when you’re gone

It’s no wonder we don’t value it all

(chorus)

Oooh-oh, money isn’t everything

It’s just a means to an end

We spend it all as fast as we make it

Then we start all over again

We waste it

We misplace it

We deface it

and more

We don’t regard it

We disgard it

Credit card it --

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!

Money isn’t everything

No, no, no

Money isn’t everything

(Just drop a $20 in my jar)

Money isn’t everything

Money isn’t everything

Hey, money isn’t anything at all

Hey John (Sing At My Wedding)

(This was originally written based on the story of an acquaintance of mine whose husband grew up in John Lennon's neighborhood and wrote him a letter asking him to sing at their wedding -- which he did many, many years ago.)

Hey John, I’d like to ask a favor of you

I’m getting married this November twenty-three

To a woman who loves your music

and I think she really loves me too

So will you just drop whatever you’re doing

and pick up your guitar

hop a plane to L.A.X.

from there it’s not so far …

(chorus)

Sing at my wedding, won’t you please

Sing for the love of my life, my wife (-to-be)

Sing her a song that she’ll remember all her life

     (and more)

Sing for the love of my life, for my wife

Hey John, I know that you’re a married man

You know how much it means to find your heart

     at last

In someone who loves you no matter what

Like she’s your most devoted fan

So will you do me this one big favor

and bring your band along

dance at our reception

and sing just one quick song …

(chorus)

Hey, hey, there, Johnnie, won’t you

Sing at my wedding, sing a love song

Sing it for the love of my life, my wife (-to-be)

Sing her a song that she’ll remember all her life

     (and more)

Sing for the love of my life, for my wife

(bridge)

There’s so many things I want to tell her

Like I’m sorry that we waited so long

Maybe you can help me say it better

In the words of that one special song

(instrumental)

(chorus – very soft, almost spoken)

Sing at my wedding, Johnnie, please

Sing for the love of my life, my wife (-to-be)

Sing her a song that she’ll remember all her life

     (and more)

Sing for the love of my life, for my wife

Ticket Home

I tried so hard to make it in L.A.

but things kept getting worse for me

every single day

Someone always says, “we don’t like it,

Can’t you one more time rewrite it,

Change a few lines here and there,

We’ll be sure you get your share”

But I never do

I drive the Strip right out to Malibu

and sleep alone each night and dream

about my love for you

Something tells me to go back home

Back to Detroit where I came from

Where you’ve been waiting all along

Knowing it’s where I belong

But I never do

(chorus)

But tonight everything has changed

This boy (girl) has finally come to his (her) senses

I stopped into the Amtrak station

Pushed Mastercard right to its limit

And with all the cash I added to it

I bought a ticket home, yeah,

I finally bought a ticket home

I’ll be there in just three days, babe,

A ticket home, I bought a ticket

home to you

It’s hard to admit life didn’t work out

just the way that I’d planned it

-- and never had a doubt

Now I see it wasn’t meant to be

And Amtrak’s gonna set me free

Take me back to Michigan

Where I can be with you again

And today I’m going

Yes, I am

(chorus)

‘Cos tonight everything has changed

This boy (girl) has finally come to his (her) senses

I stopped into the Amtrak station

Pushed Mastercard right to its limit

And with all the cash I added to it

I bought a ticket home, yeah,

I finally bought a ticket home

I’ll be there in just three days, honey,

A ticket home, I bought a ticket

home to you

(bridge)

Today life closed a door

Then opened one much better

I’m coming home to you, my love

‘Cos in my life you’re all that makes sense

anymore

(chorus)

Oh tonight everything has changed

This boy (girl) has finally come to his (her) senses

I stopped into the Amtrak station

Pushed Mastercard right to its limit

And with all the cash I added to it

I bought a ticket home, yeah,

I finally bought a ticket home

I’ll be there in just three days, darlin’

A ticket home, I bought a ticket

home to you

Think Of You

One chance meeting late at night,

we shared a breath by candle light,

and now I’m lost and insecure.

All I do is think of you.

Think of you, yeah, dreaming too.

And when I think I’m finally through,

I start again and think of you.

How many minutes has it been?

Or was there a whole day in between?

I can’t remember, I’m so confused.

All I do is think of you.

Think of you, yeah, dreaming too.

And when I think I’m finally through,

I start again and think of you.

(Bridge)

In my life the days go fast.

I'm looking for a love to last

me for eternity.

I’m too shy to telephone,

but you’re not and I’m at home.

Now I’m on fire and all the while

I wait for you and think of you, yeah

think of you, babe, dreaming too.

Wait for you and think of you.

I think of you, yeah, think of you.

Dream of you and wait for you.

I think of you, think of you.

Dreaming, dreaming ...

Think of you ...

Think of you ...

(fade)

Sweet Kisses

Chatting ‘cross the kitchen table

about the movie while we’re able.

So distracted by each other,

warmed by words and summer air,

smell of jasmine in my hair,

all is right ‘cos you are there.

You reach out and touch my hand,

you whisper as we stop and stand.

I can’t resist your ‘come here’ smile,

your arms around me, I go weak,

kisses on my neck and cheek,

your lips on mine -- I cannot speak

(Chorus)

Oh sweet kisses!

Oh such sweet, sweet kisses!

Is there a better recipe for love?

Oooooh-oh sweet kisses!

Much sweeter than the finest chocolate,

sweeter than a mocha latté.

Oooooh sweet kisses,

Oooooh your sweet, sweet kisses!

Is there a better recipe for love?

(Bridge)

Your lips inviting, warm and tender

Touching mine, invite more splendor

(Chorus)

Ooooooh sweet kisses!

Your sweet kisses, baby.

Oooooh-oh sweet kisses!

Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet kisses!

Is there a better recipe for love?

Sweet kisses ...

Sweet, sweet kisses ...

Oh sweet kisses ...

(fade)

I Am Your Child

(This was originally written to go with an environmental-themed commercial but was later scrapped by the producer when they switched agencies.)

The icy streams have melted

and the grass grows tender green.

There's a halo 'cross the heavens

with bright colors in between.

Each field swells with the wisdom

of a million daffodils,

and the buttercups and crocuses

are smothering the hills.

There’s a sea of playful dolphins,

and the air’s alive with birds.

Sometimes it’s all so beautiful,

it’s hard to say with words ...

But I will try.

I am your child.

This world is my hope, it is my legacy.

Please take care of it for me.

Show me that you want the best for me.

Prove that you will love me forever.

Remember me, think of me,

I am your child!

Remember me --

when you walk among the mountains.

Remember me --

when you sail across the sea.

Remember me --

when you’re driving down that highway.

Remember! This world’s my legacy!

Remember me, think of me, I am your child.

Remember me, with love, I am your child!

(repeat, fade)

Echoes Out Of Time

(This was originally written to the music of Dan Hill's "Sometimes When We Touch.")

With every rose you gave me

I suffered from a thorn.

I know love isn't easy

but our loyalties are torn.

I long for independence;

you need security,

and so between the two of us

there's instability.

(Chorus)

Like echoes out of time,

every time your lips meet mine

we're so close, yet so far apart.

There's no reason to pretend

that this love will never end.

It's been over

almost from the very start.

Believe me when I tell you

that there's too much compromise.

The times of love are far too few

this side of paradise.

It's time for a decision;

this isn't just a phase.

It's time we tried division

and went our separate ways

(Chorus)

(Bridge)

You're searching for a savior;

I'm fighting to be free,

and I don't have to tell you

that's not how it should be.

(Chorus)

Tears

(Tears)

Look at these tears, baby!

(Tears)

Say don't it break your heart?

I can't stop crying.

(Tears)

There's no denying.

(Tears)

These tears are tearing me apart!

I'm running over with ...

(Tears)

I'm crying for you, baby!

(Tears)

Hey don't it make you blue?

My eyes are so red.

(Tears)

I'm crying in bed.

(Tears)

These tears are all because of you!

I can't stand it, no more ...

(Tears)

Water in my eyes, baby!

(Tears)

Think I'm losing a friend.

I know that it's wrong.

(Tears)

We can't get along.

(Tears)

These tears say that this is the end!

I can't go on without you ...

(Tears)

Look at these tears, baby!

(Tears, tears, tears, tears, tears)

I'm crying for you baby!

(Tears, tears, tears, tears, tears)

[repeat, fade]

Gotta Let Go (Duet)

HE:   I don't want to be a prisoner of your love,

chained to your heart day and night

SHE: You know how much I long for your touch --

HE:   But, you're holding me much too,

        much too tight, and ...

This is so hard for me to say --

I wish there was some easy way ...

SHE:  So hard when I'm lovin' you so --

HE:    But darlin' you just gotta let go!

SHE:  I don't wanna spend my lifetime without

you, crying 'cause you're running free.

HE:    I know you can make it alone girl --

SHE:  But, I want you here, right here with

         me, 'cause ...

Goodbye's too hard for me to say.

I wish there was some easy way.

HE:    There's no other way that I know.

SHE:  Oh darlin' I just can't let you go!

HE:    You're making it harder every day

to love you and still walk away.

SHE:   I want you just like before --

HE:    But, darlin' you just gotta let go!

SHE:  I know, oh I know I

BOTH: Gotta let go, gotta let go, gotta let go

The Ballad of Annie Rivers

(This lyric was originally written to go with a short story by the same name)

Annie, she was sixteen, and he was twenty-one.

She left her home and family and she followed him around.

All her friends they told her, "Jack Kane, he ain’t no good."

But love had made her blind; she said, "He’s just misunderstood."

(Chorus)

Annie, Annie Rivers!

A heart as big and wild as it could be.

Annie, Annie Rivers!

She loved that man but it weren’t meant to be.

She followed him to Denver all the way from New Orleans,

And everywhere she went folks said, "Jack Kane is just plain mean."

But her heart was filled with love and she let that love run free.

Jack Kane left her in Houston with young’ens on her knee.

(Chorus)

She knew she had to find him, so she rode from town to town.

Found him with a woman – they were just foolin' around.

She cried, she screamed, she tore her hair in so much misery.

Jack Kane just laughed and told her, "Go on home and wait for me!"

(Chorus)

The years rushed by, the kids were grown, and Annie sat alone,

Still thinkin’ that the man she loved was on his way back home.

But Jack Kane died a coward’s death in Memphis, Tennessee,

While Annie died in the winter cold one March in Kankakee.

(Chorus)

(Why Can't It Be)

Christmas Every Day   (Music by Scott Getline)

Christmas, Christmas, Christmas ... Every day!

This world is torn by hunger and by war

And just when you think you can't take any more

The calendar turns to that one special day

When we throw all our hatred and violence away

We turn to each other and hold loved ones near

Oh why can't it be this way all through the year?

(Chorus)

Why can't it be Christmas every day?

Why can't it be Christmas, even in May?

Just look for the good that's behind every face

And spread Christmas cheer all over the place

Make your Christmas spirit burn bright and burn strong

And light up the world with love all year long

No matter where you look it's all the same

Such suffering and pain and we all share the blame

Then in comes the season of tinsel and trees

And we all live together in joy and in peace

Our fears and our anger and greed disappear

Oh why can't it be this way all through the year?

(Chorus)

(Bridge)

Open up your heart, open up your heart

Open up your heart and share your love, every day

(Chorus)

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa

la, la, la, la, la, la

All year long!

Love Like A Fever

Every day I feel the passion

beating in my soul, my very soul.

And every day I'm flaming with desire for you baby,

'Cause darling you're the fire, you're the fire, and I'm the coal.

(Chorus)

And don't you know, honey, I got ...

Love like a fever --

Burning me, burning me, burning me.

Yeah, baby, I got ...

Love like a fever --

There's a fire, a fire, a fire in my soul.

Love like a fever --

And I can't, no I just can't, I can't ever let you go!

Always knew that some day that fire

would go out in ashes, in ashes and grey smoke.

But I kept on loving you, loving you baby.

I love you so hard, love you so hard, and that's no joke.

(Chorus)

Oh baby please don't make me sorry

that we ever, that we ever made it oh so very good.

'Cause I kept on loving you, and feeling you in my heart baby.

'Cause you're the matches honey, you're the matches, and I'm the wood.

(Chorus)

Love like a fever --

And I can't, no I just can't, I can't ever let you go!

[repeat, fade]
